Are heroes born…or are they bred? Tom Fowler returns to QUANTUM AND WOODY for the thrilling and tragic life story of…Vincent Van Goat! Behold! A hero is born! A hero rises! We’re gonna level with you-you’re going to need to read this issue! Excitement and laughs and all that! Major repercussions for Quantum and Woody! Yes, seriously! Buy the issue and then see if we weren’t kidding!
This is a special issue to tell the origin of the goat, which first appeared in issue #4. In the opening pages, Woody and Eric are dropping him off at a petting zoo, then we get a flashback to the Goat’s history, how he got get taken by E.R.A. in the first place, and his strange connection to Eric and Woody’s father. There’s a pretty big reveal at the end, which I won’t spoil here (or maybe I just did), but in the end, the zoo forces Eric and Woody to take the goat back.
I’s a fun issue. Pretty much a stand-alone story that isn’t essential reading to enjoy the series (well, other than that major reveal about the Goat), James Asmus wrote this with the assistance of Tom Fowler, who drew this issue. I know this is a short review, but I can’t say much without spoiling everything, so it’s one of those books that you just have to read for yourself. But if you’ve been enjoying this series, like I have, then you can be assured that this issue maintains the high quality we have come to expect from it.
