FROM BAD TO SUPER BAD. Exiled from the Community and on his own–can the most not-to-be-trifled-with man of international ass-kicking survive Guantanamo Bay? You can bet your sweet ass he can! And if The Man is going to force him back into the game then it’s time for BLACK DYNAMITE to show them how its played.
Brian Ash, who wrote the first issue, is back with co-writer Yassir Lester for this one. The premise of this issue is simple, but compelling. Black Dynamite is trapped on a secret island base belonging to The Illuminati, and meets it’s leader, “The Man”, who reveals that all the conspiracies about a secret group that rules the world for the benefit of the wealthy elites are true. And that’s who they are. For some reason, which is never made clear, they want Black Dynamite to join them. They’ve decided to stop hiding and go public with their global domination. Of course, Black Dynamite ain’t playin’ that game, and as soon as he’s got a big ass gun in his hands he turns the tables on his captures and starts blowing them away.
Much credit to artist Marcelo Ferreira for the way he renders the action. Particularly when various Illuminati soldier are getting blown to pieces, Ferreira doesn’t hold back from showing the gore.
Black Dynamite soon finds himself aided by a woman who represents another group, a multicultural assembly of rebels who fight against The Illuminati. They get him off the Island and invite him to join their cause, which he does, for a price. TO BE CONTINUED
A fun little action-packed comic that skillfully plays on Blaxpoloitation themes without feeling like an outright parody. This issue was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait to me. Chacebook rating: FIVE STARS
