LINGERIE season 1, episode 4: Russ Gets His Girl

Heather Vandeven

This episode features a guest appearance by the former Penthouse Pet turned Actress Heather Vandeven! That alone makes this my favorite episode of this series, which has been generally underwhelming overall, thus far.

Written by Sandy Travis and directed by Trevor Cornish, this episode picks up right after the events of episode 3. It’s the morning after and Russ (Jonathan Steen) wakes up in bed with Sheryl (Alyson Bath), the woman he picked up at the bar the night before. After telling him how great he was the night before, they have sex, and then she leaves but makes him promise to introduce her to Lacey, as it turns out that Sheryl is an aspiring model. Cody (Matt Fitzgerald) congratulates Russ on hooking up with Sheryl, but Russ complains because he feels like she only wanted him as a chance to further her career, but Cody doesn’t see the problem. Russ doesn’t just want casual hookups, he wants to find a woman who likes him for himself and is looking for a committed relationship. But Cody tries to convince him that he doesn’t need a relationship, and should just be out having fun. He proposes that they go out that night to pick up chicks.

That night we see them going back to Lacey’s loft/office with two women, Francine (Vandeven) and Maddy (Elyse Genevieve). Cody lies that it’s his place, saying he’s a lingerie designer and Cody is his photographer. Francine is impressed and wants to see some of his lingerie, so Cody takes her to the room where the samples are, and Russ talks to Maddy. He admits that Cody doesn’t really own the place, and tells her that he’s a bartender, not a photographer. Maddy doesn’t mind and thinks his nice anyway, and agrees to go with him to his apartment across the street, where the two of them have sex. Vanessa arrives at the loft and cockblocks Cody. She and Francine hit it off, and go to her room and have sex, leaving a frustrated Cody trying to peek through the door.

The other subplot of this episode also involves Vanessa. After talking to her about how her aspiring acting career hasn’t been going so well since she moved to NY, Jason (Michael Murray Scratch) tries to convince her to try out being a model, but Vanessa is hesitant. She thinks models don’t get taken seriously as actresses, so it might hurt her career, plus she points out that she has a stylized flaming skull tattoo on her hip, which wouldn’t look good while posing in lingerie. But later in the office along with Stephanie and Jeffery (Erin Brown and Geoff Stevens), Lacey (Jennifer Korbin) comes in and she thinks Vanessa would be the perfect model to debut her new lingerie line at an upcoming fashion show. When Vanessa agrees, Jason offers to take everyone out to dinner to celebrate (but Vanessa had other plans, which is how she ends up back at the loft with Francine).

It’s that second subplot which illustrates the problem. Lacey is supposed to be the lead character, and the lingerie business is the premise of this series, yet 4 episodes in and she’s already regulated to a supporting character, while the bulk of the episode focuses on the exploits of Russ and Cody. It just doesn’t make sense.

At least we do get 4 hot sex scenes, as in addition to the three that I mentioned, there’s a threesome scene, as Russ remembers a time in college when he had sex with two coeds (Lydia Lynx and Jezabel Knight). So for that, I’ll give this episode a Chacebook rating of FOUR STARS. But I’m still waiting for this series to get better.
