LINGERIE season 1, episode 3: Double or Nothing

Written by series creator John Quinn and directed by Trevor Cornish, this episode opens late a night, Lacey (Jennifer Korbin) is awake in her apartment going over some paperwork when Vanessa (Lana Tailor) comes in with a woman named Michelle (Melina May) whom she picked up at a bar. The two women go into the shower to have loud sex, leaving Lacey looking frustrated in the other room as she hears their moans.

The next day at work, Lacey is still complaining about her lack of money. Stephanie (Erin Brown) contacts a customer who owes them money and is ready to pay them, but that’s still only enough to get them by for another week. Rick, the firefighter from episode 2 (played by Chris Smits) shows up, saying he’s just there to check out if there’s any remaining structural damage from the fire, but everyone, including Jason (Michael Murray Scratch), who was there photographing a model, notices the sparks between them. Later at a bar with Jeffery (Geoff Stevens), Jason insists that he’s not jealous because he and Lacey aren’t exclusive and he’s okay with that, although Jefferey doesn’t believe him. Lacey runs into Rick again, while she’s out to lunch with Marilyn (Denise Cobar), and he finally asks Lacey out, which she accepts.

Jonathan Steen plays Russ, he’s Cody’s roommate. We first see him as he’s leaving their apartment for work, mentioning that Cody (Matt Fitzgerald) owes him his half of that month’s rent. Cody is in bed with Joanne (Emily MacLeod), who questions him about introducing her to Lacey because she wants to be a model, but Cody doesn’t want to rush it now as he assumes that Lacey is probably still a bit upset about the fire that and Joanna accidentally caused in her apartment. But they still have hot sex.

Later Cody shows up at the bar where Russ works as a bartender (it’s the same bar Jason and Jefferey were at), and he sees that Russ is checking out some woman sitting at a table with her friends, and he bets Russ double or nothing that he won’t have the guts to talk to her. Russ takes the bet and as soon as the friends leave he approaches the woman, whose name is Sheryl (played by Alyson Bath), who turns out to be just as into him as he was into her. They go back to his place and have sex in his bed, while Cody is left frustrated in his room as he hears the sounds of their moans.

It’s a little clever the way the episode begins and ends with someone being forced to listen to someone else have sex, but once again this episode just felt rather bland. I’m still just not finding any of these characters that interesting nor am I caring about their storylines. The show looks good, it’s well-shot, and the cast is attractive and does a fine job with their roles, but it’s just not quite enough, at least not for this type of series. If it was a simple anthology series, with each episode being a standalone story with some recurring characters, like Hotel Erotica Cabo, it might work, but this is trying to be a continuing soap opera, like Life On Top, and for a show like that you need to be emotionally invested in what happens to the recurring characters. Three episodes in, and I’m just not there yet. I hope it improves.

Chacebook rating: THREE STARS
