LINGERIE season 1, episode 9: Model Behavior

Written by Pat Jacobs and directed by Christopher Warre Smets, this episode finally brings to head the subplot of Lacey and Jason’s “open relationship.” Although the way it’s handled is a bit confusing.

First, the episode opens with Jason banging some hot model (played by Inna Ivanova) in his kitchen. This was done in exchange for her agreeing to be one of Lacey’s models in the fashion show, for free.

Later, Lacey and Jeffrey are in Lacey’s loft, and Vanessa’s phone rings while Vanessa is in the shower. Jeffrey notices that it’s Jason calling her, and Lacey immediately gets suspicious as to why he’s calling her (despite the fact that she knows he’s done two sets of photoshoots for Vanesssa, so why would him calling her be so suspicious)? She picks up the phone and accuses him of breaking their agreement, which was supposedly not to ever sleep with any of each other’s friends. Jason makes the totally fair point that even though Lacey lives with Vanessa, they barely spend time with each other and that he actually knows her much better than she does.  And they each blame each other for agreeing to an open relationship. Lacey is pissed and hangs up, and when Vanessa comes out of the shower, Lacey doesn’t say anything to her. You’d think they’d discuss it right then.

Later Vanessa goes to see Jason, and they have sex, but afterward, Jason admits to Vanessa that he’s in love with Lacey. Vanessa isn’t mad at him, although she says if she’d known how he felt, she wouldn’t have ever slept with him. She thought he didn’t have any feelings for Lacey, based on the fact that he’s barely ever around (another truth, Jason and Lacey haven’t had any intimacy since episode 2) She tells him if he wants to be with Lacey, he needs to let her know that.

Jason prepares to walk Vanessa home, but as they’re leaving out the front, she has to go back in to get something she forgot. As Jason is standing at the door, Lacey comes running up, saying she had to see him, she doesn’t like how they left things. They talk about their relationship, including all the time Lacey’s been spending with Rick, and Jason admits that hurts him, but then Vanessa comes out. And this is when they do that thing I hate when writers have their characters do, where someone gets caught in a misunderstanding and starts acting flustered and can’t speak, making the situation worse.

Instead of just quickly explaining what’s going on, saying hey, me and Vanessa just agreed to cut things off, and Vanessa could add “yeah, he just told me he’s in love with you,” Vanessa and Jason stand there looking guilty as Lacey storms off, with Jason weakly saying “Lacey, wait, please!”

Well, at least they finally addressed it. I’m just hoping this doesn’t get dragged out for the 4 episodes until the season finale.

The other subplot in this episode involves Stephanie and Cody. They hooked up in episode 5, and then Cody tried to play it off in episode 6, although he was clearly jealous of her being with another man after him. Then he went back to having one-night stands with random women in episode 7, and slept with the fashion reporter in episode 8. But in this episode, he sees Stephanie on a lunch date with another man,  and again is visibly upset as he says to Russ “I guess she’s not into me at all.”

The man Stephanie was out with was Doug (played by Josh Logan), who runs a modeling agency. She gets him to agree to send Lacey some of his newer models who need experience, at a reduced rate. In gratitude, she takes him home and has sex with him.

A 4th sexual encounter is between Marilyn and her boss Cormac. She’s still trying to get him to let her write in the magazine about how Ian stole from Lacey, but without proof, he says she could be on the hook for a liable suit.

So overall this was a pretty good episode with the characters’ storylines moving forward, despite my disappointment with how the Lacey/Jason plot was left. But again, this show comes through with the hot sex scenes, especially any scene involving Lana Tailor. So I was impressed. Chacebook rating: FOUR STARS
