This comic began as a project on Kickstarter. It popped up in my recommendations because I guess Kickstarter’s algorithm recognizes what a pervert I am. Jeff Egli writes and draws the comic, which stars our heroine, a busty red-headed green-eyed lass, who seems to be more a treasure hunter than an outright pirate.

The 21-page story is THE SECRET OF THE ISLAND and is told in 2 chapters. In Chapter 1, Saffron, who apparently has no crew, has landed on “the lost island of Droodle” in search of some kind of mythical amulet. She must not have brought many supplies with her as in the opening page she’s fishing in a lake, and talks about how starving she is. Beside her is a pet, an unnamed talking frog. Saffron feels a tug on her fishing rod, “let us feast!” the frog shouts (wait, do frogs even eat fish?), but up comes some giant blue-ish/green sea creature with claws on its hands.

Saffron and the frog try to run, but the monster catches Saffron, rips off her skimpy top and even skimpier shorts, and then ties her by her hands and feet to a tree branch over a pile of logs. Saffron realizes that the monster is preparing to start a fire so it can cook and then eat her. But thanks to some quick thinking by the front, Saffron survives.

In Chapter 2, Saffron and the frog are exploring the woods of the island. Saffron has a map but has still gotten lost. Then out of nowhere, they meet a busty beautiful blonde White woman who is completely nude. She says her name is Goldie and is as surprised to see Saffron and the frog as they are to see her. Saffron tells Goldie that they’re looking for a lake, and Goldier offers to lead them to it. All the while Saffron keeps thinking to herself how gorgeous and sexy Goldie is.

They get to the lake, where the amulet that Saffon is supposed to be in the middle at the bottom of it. But since it’s too deep for either Saffron or the frog to swim to, Goldie offers to do it. She swims down, finds the little case that the amulate is in, and brings it back to the surface. But before she can get out of lack some giant purple tentacles reach up from the lack and grab her, lifting her into the air, which reveals that Goldie’s bottom half is not a fish-tail, making her a mermaid (I guess like in the movie Splash, her fish-tail turns into human legs when she gets dry, and then back when wet).

Saffron tries to help but gets caught by the tentacles too (and, conveniently, her clothes get ripped off again). Things seem dire Goldie manages to call for help. I won’t spoil the rest, other than to say that the issue ends on a dramatic cliffhanger.

It’s a fun issue. It sort of reminds me of Jim Balent’s Tarot, a series that also features a busty red-headed heroine who is always getting naked during her adventures. I was not familiar with Jeff Egli’s work before this, but his artwork is clean and provides exactly the type of style that fans of cheesecake art would expect.
