Written by Denise Monroe and directed by Chris Tudor, this episode (which shares the name of an episode of Passion Cove) stars Julian Wells as Gwen, an aspiring actress. She calls in to the radio show to tell Veronica (Angela Nicholas) about her encounters with an actor named Alec (Jonathan Gray).
Gwen and Alec met while taking an acting class together. Alec was already a professional actor, currently starring in a small role on a daytime soap opera. But he says the producers of the show felt that he needed to show more range before they give him a bigger role, which is why he was taking the class. Michael Aranda plays Bennett, the acting coach. One day, he gives the two of them a script he wrote and has them act out the scene in front of the class. The play is about two lovers, but the scene doesn’t go well as they just don’t have any chemistry together, so Bennett insists they rehearse the scene together to prepare to try again at the next class.
Meeting up at Alec’s apartment, they start to rehearse, but it still doesn’t go well, so Gwen sets up a video camera that she brought with her to record themselves so they can watch their performance and see where they need to improve. This time, as soon as they get started on the scene, which includes a kiss, they both get turned on and have sex on Alec’s living room couch. But Gwen tells Angela that right after they finished, it seemed like everything was back to normal, and Alec had to rush out to go to some meeting.
At the next acting class, they still can’t seem to perform the scene well, so Bennett cuts them off and tells them to rehearse some more. They’ll try it one more time at the next class. Back at Alec’s place, they have the same problem, which once again is resolved when Gwen sets up the video camera. This is when Gwen realizes that the video camera’s presence gives both of them the edge they need to perform together.
So, at the next acting class, she brings her video and camera and has Bennett record them as they perform the scene, and it finally goes well. Afterward, back at Alec’s apartment, the two of them have sex again, with the camera rolling. Gwen tells Angela that neither of them was interested in pursuing a relationship at the time, but they continued to get together to “rehearse” once in a while. THE END.
Unlike their characters, Julian Wells and Jonathan Gray do have chemistry together. Their three sex scenes are decent, although one of them (which is just a dream sequence) takes place in a room with red lighting, so it’s not as enjoyable to watch for me, although it may not bother others. The third scene, which starts in a shower and then finishes on a bed, is the best. This is not one of the best episodes of this series, but it’s watchable. Chacebook rating: FIVE STARS
