It’s taken a while, since April 24th of last year, to be exact, but I’m finally finishing my look back at The Best Sex Ever with this final episode of the second and last season.

Written by Anthony L. Greene and directed by Chris Tudor, this episode opens with Veronica (Angela Nicholas) asking for callers on her radio show to tell her of their experiences seeing a sex therapist, which she reminds them used to be her profession, to save their marriages. Steven St. Croix plays Robert, who calls in to tell the story of him and his wife Carmen (Isabella).

Robert, who says he’s 3rd generation Hispanic but never knew much about his heritage, once visited Mexico City for an architectural conference. He was immediately impressed by the environment and culture, especially all the lovely Mexican women. One night at a club, he met Carmen, the bartender, and they quickly hit it off. That night, after the club closed, they both stayed behind and had sex in the club. They continued hooking up for several days, and within a month, they had gotten married, and Carmen moved to California with Robert.

At first, it was great; they were having wild sex all the time. But flash-forward to a year later, things had gotten stale. Carmen was sexually unsatisfied, as Robert, who’d formed his own architect firm by then, was working so hard all the time. Carmen, who always called Robert “Roberto,” complained that he wasn’t the same man anymore as when they’d met and suggested that they move to Mexico where Robert could work for her father, who owns a tamale business. Naturally, this prospect doesn’t appeal to Robert, and after several fights, he looks up a therapist and makes an appointment for the two of them.

Belinda Gavin plays Brianna, the therapist. But even after a couple of meetings with her, Roberto and Carmen still aren’t any closer. Still not wanting to give up, Robert has an appointment with Brianna alone, and she convinces him to connect with his “inner Roberto” to get that initial spark back.

Robert surprises Carmen with a trip back to Mexico City, where he arranges for the two of them to spend the night at that same club where they met, after hours, where they have sex again. Robert tells Veronica that in the year since then, they’ve been as happy as ever, and he says it’s thanks to Brianna. THE END.

In addition to the two sex scenes between Steven St. Croix and Isabella, there’s a solar scene where Isabella masturbates in the shower, and there’s a scene between Felony and Ed Johnson (aka Leland Jay), who play a couple that Brianna coaches through having sex, and a scene between Johnson and Belinda Gavin herself, as they have sex in her office while Robert watches.

Steven St. Croix was a longtime hardcore porn performer and is a very capable actor. Belinda Gavin is a softcore veteran, but the truth is that neither she nor Isabella or Felony are quite my type. These sex scenes didn’t do much for me, and the storyline was fine but not compelling enough to make up for the lack of sex appeal. If you’re into any of those ladies, you’ll enjoy this episode, but the best I can give it is a Chacebook rating of THREE STARS.

While this episode is not the high note I’d have wanted it to go out on, I have to say that, overall, The Best Sex Ever is one of my favorite softcore television series. The format provided an easy way to tell new stories about sex without worrying about continuity. It managed to get many of the top softcore actors of its era, some of them more than once playing different characters. And it was always well-shot. The only thing I would have changed was if it had added at least one or two more episodes where Veronica was active in the story, such as in HOMEWORK and THE SEDUCTION OF VERONICA. Angela Nicholas was so good and sexy that it seems a shame to just use her as a narrator most of the time.
