EROTICA/ROMANCE NOVELS

TAKEN BY THE STEPBROTHERS: A REVERSE HAREM ROMANCE by Victoria Blake

A new sub-genre is on the rise in popular romance fiction: the reverse harem. In the five years since its beginning, the themes of these novels rose from obscurity to a buzzword thrown across book titles and descriptions. The reverse harem novel stands apart from other romance novels due to many of its basic characteristics, the most obvious of which is the makeup of the main characters. Just as a harem is made up of one man with multiple women, a reverse harem consists of one female protagonist and three or more male love interests. However, this is not a situation where the woman must pick her one true love by the end of the novel; instead, the woman simply does not choose. She gets them all, and they all live out their happily ever after as one united family. The HEA of a traditional romance still exists, though it is a happily ever after for the entire family unit, not between just one of the men and the woman.

This is the first such novel that I’ve ever read. I have read a few “harem” novels where it’s male lead with multiple women, so I guess that’s why this novel popped up in my recommendation on Amazon? Well, it was only .99 cents at the time, so I decided to go ahead and buy it. I’ll say in advance that I found it enjoyable despite the implausibility of the premise (not that an implausible premise has stopped me from enjoying many other erotic novels before this). I won’t spoil or recap the entire story; I’ll just try to give you the broad strokes.

The lead character is Maria Alves, and the book is written from her POV. Her age isn’t given, but she graduated college a year earlier, so she may be around 22-23. Unable to find a job with the marketing degree she obtained, she’s been working as a cleaning lady while living with a roommate.

One day, a friend of hers invites her to come with her to a fancy masquerade party at a big hotel in Los Angeles. That’s where she randomly meets Ben and his younger brother Tony. They’re likely also around her age (Ben is working while Tony is still in college). Both men begin flirting with her, and she takes turns dancing with each of them as the night wears on until they proposition her to go up to a room with both of them. Feeling wild for the night, Maria goes for it. They have two threesomes, and the men leave while Marie sleeps, expecting to never see either man again.

The next day, she receives an unexpected phone call from her father (a wealthy criminal defense attorney whom she never got along with), who invites her to a home she’s never been to before. When she got there, her father introduced her to a woman named Clarissa, whom he says is his new fiance and who owns the home (a lovely large villa). Ben and Tony show up and are revealed to be Clarissa’s sons. The three young folks manage to act like they’ve never met before, but then Marie’s father says that he and Clarissa are going away for the weekend and asks her to stay there to get to know her future stepbrothers until he and Clarissa return.

Once their parents leave, Maria is confused and finds this all too awkward, but Ben and Tony say that they’re both happy to see her again and still want her just as badly as they did the night before. The three of them spend the weekend having sex. In bed, in the shower, and on the kitchen table. Usually, these are threesomes, where Marie has sex with both of them at once. Condoms are not discussed nor used, so over the course of this weekend (it’s from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon), Maria receives multiple creampies from each man (this will be important later). At one point, each man tells her that they’ve fallen in love with her, and she confesses that she feels the same about each of them.  But then their parents come home early, and all Hell breaks loose.

Marie returns to her apartment and cuts contact with her father, Ben, and Tony. But a month later, she finds out that she’s pregnant. Coincidentally, right after she discovers this, she’s contacted by Clarissa, who reveals some troubling news about Maria’s father that has led to Clarissa calling off her engagement to him. Marie reunites with Ben and Tony and tells them about her pregnancy. They take it surprisingly well, simultaneously shouting, “We’re pregnant!”

Neither one of them cares nor wants to know who the biological father is. Instead, they agree to continue to share her as a lover and raise the child together with her. Clarissa is moving to NY, letting Maria, Ben, and Tony have the villa where they can live together.

The book ends with a flash forward to a birthday party celebrating Marie’s daughter Isabella’s first birthday.  After all of the guests, including proud grandmother Clarissa, leave and Isabella is put to be, Maria, Ben, and Tony unwind on the couch by having sex.

In terms of the plot, there’s much more to the story involving Maria’s father and his secret motivations. All that I’ll leave for anyone who chooses to get this book to read for themselves. But, let’s face it, the main reason that people (including myself) read books like this is for the sex, and there’s a lot of it in this book, which writer Victoria Blake describes in explicit detail.

As I noted, most of the sex scenes presented here are threesomes, with Maria being pleasured by both men at the same time. The most common scenario being her blowing one man while the other fucks her in the pussy until all three of them cum. Then the men will switch places and start over until they all cum again. There are a couple of DP’s, where one fucks her in the pussy while the other is fucking her in the ass. The fourplay before and in between sex also involves both brothers, like they’ll each be sucking on one of her breasts while one fingers her pussy and the other fingers her ass. There’s also some consensual light bondage. I have to say that it’s hot stuff (if you’re into this sort of thing).

My only minor complaint is that, for some reason, Victoria Blake isn’t very descriptive when it comes to any of the characters. I like to be able to visualize the characters in my head while reading erotica. But all we get about Maria is that she has long black hair, nothing else about how she looks. Ben and Tony are only slightly more fleshed out; they’re each described as tall with brown hair and green eyes. But Victoria Blake does describe what’s going on in Maria’s head very well. She experiences many emotions in this book, from frustration, anger, and fear to joy, love and lust, so she feels like you’d imagine a real person would feel while experiencing these events.

If you’re new to the reverse harem romance genre or want to introduce a new reader to it, this is a good recommended book to start with. Chacebook rating: FOUR STARS

  1. “Maria receives multiple creampies from each man (this will be important later)” 😂😂😂

I used to love reading these but honestly the genre is so chock full of awful stories nowadays and not even worth it as a delivery vehicle for smut. Can’t trust goodreads either cause even the really bad stories will be someone’s guilty pleasure lol and they’ll give it 5 star ratings. (I’m so guilty of this lol).

Maybe I’ll give this a go! But I hate the vague descriptive stuff and AI covers so probably not.
