CHEMISTRY episode 2: A Kiss Is Not A Kiss

Ana Alexander

The creative team of writers Richard Christian Matheson and Norman Steinberg, and director Mark Haber, return for this second episode. Michael (Jonathan Chase) is continuing his job and his relationship with Jocelyn (Ragan Wallake), while also continuing his affair with Liz (Ana Alexander). One night after leaving his office with Luther (Jeremy Kent Jackson), Liz drives up in her police car and arrests Mark. Both act like they don’t know each other, and the arrest is real. Liz handcuffs Mark and places him in the back of her police car, but then drives him to a local zoo, gets into the back seat, and has sex with him.

This scene was not quite as hot as it could have been, since the director cuts back and forth between the couple having sex and a monkey in a cage screaming. I really didn’t want to see the monkey.

After the sex, they kiss, but then as Liz is driving Mark back to his car, she mentions that she’s not crazy about the way he kisses. This offends Mark, and he makes Liz stop the car and gets out to walk the rest of the way. Plus, he has to get his pants, since Liz threw them on the street while laughing.

Later, Liz invites Michael to his place; it’s his first time there. Liz surprises him by bringing in her friend Rita, played by Jayden Cole, and starts a threesome with all three of them.

Well, I became a big fan of Jayden Cole’s softcore work during her run in Life On Top Season 2, so it was good to see her here, and it was a great scene. But afterward, both Liz and Michael seem awkward with each other.

These softcore shows rarely show the potential problems to a relationship that a threesome can cause, so I was interested in this show doing that, but they don’t really. It’s said they don’t contact each other for three days, but then Liz shows up in Michael’s bathroom while he’s taking a shower (I guess he gave her a key, or she just picked the lock), joins him in there, and they have sex again. Back in bed, she asks him to kiss her again, and she likes it this time. So it’s all good between them again?

Story-wise, it’s a bit of a comedown for the first episode. The character’s behaviors just didn’t make as much sense. There was also an odd sequence where Michael is in the office with Luther and tells him what Liz said, so Luther offers to kiss him to help him out, and Michael agrees! I get that it was probably supposed to be funny, but it just went on a little too long for me and, I’m sorry, but I don’t wanna watch two men kissing!

Their boss Arthur (Eric Pierpoint) walks by and sees what’s happening, but just leaves without showing is prescence. I guess that’s supposed to be important. We’ll see where this goes.

There’s some other non-consequential stuff that happens here, but this story was the only thing that was really memorable. I’ll give this episode a Chacebook rating of THREE STARS.
