This 2006 film is from Torchlight Pictures, written and directed by Francis Locke. And if you’re familiar with the work of this studio and director, you know what to expect: a short film with a very small cast, a simple story, and long slow sex scenes.
Rachel Elizabeth plays Carrie, who shows up at this nice beach resort, for what she thinks is a religious spiritual retreat. She’s naturally confused when she goes to check in and the woman at the counter is topless, wearing just a sarong around her waste. That’s Nikki, played by Nicole Oring, who welcomes Carrie in and takes her to her room. Nikki tells her that she needs to take off her clothes, she’s only allowed to wear a sarong while she’s at the retreat, and although reluctant at first, Carrie figures it must be a test of humility and does what Nikki says. Nikki asks about Carrie’s background and even suggests that when this is over, Carrie may become a preacher, although Carrie thinks that sounds way too fast.
Nikki leaves Carrie in her room and goes down to the bar where a man played by Yanni Kratsas (we never get his character’s name) is fixing himself a drink The two of them have sex on the counter.
Then Carrie meets Mark (Billy Chappell), who says he became “born again” 4 years ago and that’s why he’s at the retreat. Then a woman played by Joelean shows up (we don’t get her character’s name either) and Mark asks Carrie for some privacy, so she leaves and Mark and the woman have sex.
Carrie goes to see Nikki, she’s still confused about when the religious teaching is supposed to start like she was expecting communion there, but Nikki assures her that there’s already been plenty of “communing” going on at the resort. Nikki then asks Carrie to rub some lotion on her, which Carrie resists at first, thinking that would be inappropriate, but Nikki assures her that this is a test of getting closer to another person, or something. It doesn’t make sense. But Carrie gives in and rubs the lotion on Nikki’s shoulders and breasts, and then Nikki does the same to Carrie, and then the ladies kiss a little and then take turns fingering each other,
Later Carrie goes to talk to Mark again, and she says she doesn’t see how what she’s been doing at the resort so far is approved by the Bible, but Mark tells her to forget the Bible, that a bunch of sheepherders in the past don’t have the answers for today, she needs to find her own answers. Then while talking to Nikki, the truth comes out. Carrie is at the wrong report, instead of a religious retreat it’s a sex retreat. Oops.
Then we see Yanni and Joelean having sex in another room. Then we see Carrie laying in bed when Mark and Nikki join her and they have a threesome. The last scene shows Carrie at the check-in desk, welcoming the newest guest to the resort.
There’s the germ of a good plot here. A woman checks in to a religious retreat only to find out in the end that she’s gone to a sex retreat instead. With some better writing, it could have been an interesting story. But, as usual, Torchlight cheaps out on these films, it’s like they just do the bare minimum preparation to film a bunch of sex scenes with a story behind them.
To Locke’s credit, the sex scenes are usually shot very well, and this film is no exception. Each scene is about 12 minutes long. I particularly like Nicole Oring’s scenes, especially the threesome. But the highest I can rate this film overall is THREE AND A HALF STARS.
