I was asked by someone on Reddit to review this film, which came out in 2011, and I could’ve sworn that I already had but then I checked and somehow I missed it. I must have planned on reviewing it after I first watched it, but then I just didn’t get around to it and forgot all about it. Well, today’s the day to correct that long-overdue mistake.
Written by Tina Hawthorne and directed by David Nichols, this has a decent enough premise (it’s hard to call it a “plot”) for a softcore film. A group of 3 men and 3 women, who all went to high school together, stay in a rented mansion for a weekend leading up to their 10th high school reunion. Throughout the weekend, old rivalries and romances resurface. Now there could be room for some emotional character arcs and surprising plot twists in that premise, but Nichols’ script never reaches that far and instead just gives a bunch of random scenes where different characters pair off to go have sex at the slightest provocation.
The film opens with Dale DaBone and Daisy Marie as Jax and Sonia. These two have been having a casual FWB relationship ever since they graduated high school 10 years ago, and Sonia was going to go to the reunion with Jax, but she comes by Jax’s house to let him know that she recently got into a relationship with another man, and that man is taking her on a trip to Hawaii, which means that she won’t be able to make the reunion. Jax is very blase about this information, which makes Sonia a little upset as she expected, and apparently wanted, Jax to be jealous that she’s seeing someone else, but Jax doesn’t care. After they briefly discuss the reunion, including going through Jax’s yearbook to reminisce about their old classmates, they have sex one last time before Sonia leaves and then Jax heads for the mansion.
It’s not clear why the other people are renting this mansion together, perhaps none of them still live in wherever the city is where the reunion is taking place, so this was cheaper than hotel rooms? But it’s not clear why this specific group is renting it together, as they’re all very different types of people, not the kind of kids you would expect to have been close friends in high school, and it’s even mentioned by a character in one scene that they weren’t. Some were just casual at best.
We’ve got Kelly (Melissa Jacobs), the former hot cheerleader and Homecoming Queen, Dale (Gino Santos) the star football player, Chester (Ryan Mclane) “the geeky kid from woodshop”, Marley (Jayden Cole) the stuck-up brainy girl and Tayler (Erika Jordan) the quiet girl who never talked to anyone. As they arrive at the mansion we quickly learn that some of the characters have ulterior motives for being there. Jax admitted to Sonia that the only reason he’s going is because he wants to have sex with Marley and then dump her, as revenge for her always looking down on him in high school. Chester is going because he’s always had a crush on Kelly and hopes to finally get a chance with her. Dale admits that he always wondered about Taylor, despite her shyness. Kelly, who peaked in high school and still relishes her “hot girl” status, wants all the attention from all the guys at the reunion.
And then comes the sex (spoilers ahead, I guess).
When Chester arrives he nervously spills a drink on Kelly. Dale accidentally walks in on her when she’s in her room changing her shirt, and they have sex.
Taylor takes Chester to her room to give him tips on how to seduce Kelly, and then they have sex.
Kelly is walking around in a skimpy bikini, and Jax follows her into the kitchen, and then they have sex.
While talking out by the pool, Dale commiserates with Marley about how he never made it in football and currently works for his father’s tile company, but he has his own business ideas, while Marley complains about how everyone thought she was stuck up in high school and either ignored her or bullied her. They comfort each other, and then they have sex.
Dale and Jax almost get into a fight over the way Jax treated Marley, but the others break it up. Taylor goes to comfort Dale and takes him to the home gym in the mansion, where they have sex on the exercise equipment (don’t try that at home, it could be dangerous).
Chester finally gets the courage to talk to Kelly alone, in her room where she’s trying to pick out a dress for the reunion. And then they have sex.
Jax talks to Marley, he apologizes for the way he treated her in high school and even confesses his original plan to pump her and dump her now. And…you guessed it…then they have sex.
The film ends with Jax and Marley in bed, apparently ready to live happily ever after. THE END.
I’m going to give this a split rating. The story gets a Chacebook rating of THREE STARS
It had potential, but it was wasted. The characterization was minimal. And the ending felt so forced. Jax’s redemption came out of nowhere, and even for a softcore porn film Marley’s decision to have sex with him after he admitted his goal to sleep with her and leave is baffling. Thus the “romantic” final scene looks stupid to me, it would have been better if they’d been true to his character and had her wake up in bed alone, realizing that she’d been tricked and Jax had dumped her after all.
Nevertheless, it’s a good-looking cast and all of the sex scenes are amazing. Erika Jordan is a softcore veteran, one of my all-time favorites, so she’s always great and the rest of the cast are all hardcore porn stars, so it’s not surprising that they’re able to make the sex look good. The only thing missing is at least one lesbian scene (Erika and Jayden or Erika and Melissa would have been awesome, or maybe a threesome between all three), but I won’t complain about what we did get. So I give the sex scenes in this film a Chacebook rating of FIVE STARS
In other words, I recommend watching but just fast forward to the sex scenes, you can skip the dialog…
