Written by A.G. Lawrence and directed by Christopher Warre Smets, this episode opens the morning after the end of episode 6. Lacey and Vanessa meet in the kitchen, where Vanessa reveals that she knows that Lacey and Jason watched her have sex with Rena, who already left to go see her boyfriend, and that she’s okay with that. When Lacey says that Jason is still sleeping in the bed, Vanessa gets an idea.
The next thing you know they’re having another threesome. It’s smoking hot, as all of their scenes are, it even includes some light bondage, which I like, but for the sake of the ongoing storyline, it feels regressive considering the slight regrets about the arrangement that Lacey was having before.
Later Lacey meets with Giovanna, who just got back from a business trip in Vegas, and tells her how she made up her mind to remain independent and has found a factory that can produce the lingerie needed to fulfill her order for Sebastian. Giovanna pretends to be happy for her and wishes her well, but after Lacey leaves Giovanna calls Richard to tell him to find out who Lacey has hired. So she’s clearly going to try to mess that up somehow.
Cormac goes to see Marilyn and she tells him the news about the offer she’s gotten to write a monthly column for a larger competing Magazine. Although she tries to spin this as a good thing for both of them, Cormac (rightly, in my opinion), objects to this because he can’t trust that she wouldn’t be saving her best work for the other magazine, and insists that he expects exclusivity at her job for him. When she refuses, he fires, gives her back the key he has to her place, and leaves.
Marilyn seems unhappy about their breakup and gets into a cab, initially with no idea of where she’s going, just telling the driver to drive around the city. She ends up at the studio of a painter named Daniel (Steve Vieira_, whom she has some kind of history with. After commiserating about her breakup, she agrees to pose naked for Daniel, and this quickly leads to sex, because that’s how people get over breakups in the softcore universe.
Joanna’s first day working part-time for Lacey doesn’t go too well for her, as she’s left alone in the studio with few instructions. That night she’s at the bar talking about it with Cody and Russ, the latter of whom is still down about his recent breakup with Maddy. Cody stresses that the best way to get over someone is to get on top of someone else, and encourages him to try to pick up some new woman. Luckily, right at the moment, a woman named Nina (Jessica Vandenberg) walks in. She and Russ had a one-night stand in episode 7 of season 1. But afterward, she got into a relationship which, coincidentally, also just ended. She goes with Russ to his place, where they have sex in his bedroom, as Cody and Joanne play video games in the living room.
It’s a good episode in terms of sex scenes, and at least we get some forward momentum in the storyline involving Lacey’s business, which always seems to take a backseat in this series despite ostensibly being what the show is about. Nina is a random character to bring back after all this time, we’ll see if she ends up being important or not. But the truth is I really don’t care that much about Russ and his love life, nor of Marilyn and hers. I won’t more focus on Lacey’s professional and personal lives, and a bigger role for Amber Smith, Giovanna still doesn’t feel important enough yet.
