LINGERIE season 2, episode 8: Nothing’s Ever Easy

This episode, written by Doug Miller and directed by Christopher Warre Smets, begins with Giovanna meeting with Phillip, the garment factory owner who is producing Lacey’s big order for Sebastian. These two have a past history together, and Giovanna seduces him, which should be a great opportunity for a sex scene starring Amber Smith, except they cheat us out of it! She gets topless and they kiss, but then the scene fades to black and cuts to them asleep in bed together. What’s up with that?!?

Anyway, while Phillip is still sleeping, Giovanna slips out of bed and goes to his laptop in the other room, where she can log in and change the delivery address for Lacey’s order, which is supposed to ship out the next day. She switches the city and state from San Francisco, CA to Washington D.C. That morning we see her and Phillip walking through his factory when Lacy arrives, and she’s surprised that the two of them know each other, but Giovanna plays it off as a small industry, and leaves. Lacey confirms with Phillip that her order is ready to ship, which he assures her that it is, but neither of them notices the address label on one of the boxes with the changed address.

Later in the episode, Lacey gets an angry call from Sebastian as her order didn’t arrive, despite him spending thousands for the launch in SF. But I can’t help but think that for such an important date you wouldn’t wait until literally the day before launch to get the product. That’s just bad planning.

Speaking of Lacey, before that scene, we see in her apartment with Jason, who tells her that he’s off to do a photoshoot for his ex-wife. Lacey gets jealous of this, and they have a brief argument about it, although when she’s later talking to Marilyn about it, Marilyn points out how odd it is that Lacey isn’t worried about having threesomes with Jason and Vanessa, their roommate whom Jason used to have a fling with, but she’s worried about him briefly working with his ex-wife, whom he doesn’t like.

And, yeah, that is pretty absurd when you think about it, isn’t it?

Marianna D’Vaz plays Jason’s ex-wife Tracy (he went from Tracy to Lacey?). She’s directing as he takes pictures of some beautiful topless models (Rachelle Fraser and Dee Coulter, as “Betty and Veronica”). She also proposes a new project they could work on together, a book that would be a collection of his erotic photography. Worried about how this would affect his relationship with Lacey, he tells her that he has to think about it.

We see Marilyn with Daniel, the painter she hooked up with in the previous episode. This was supposed to be a lunch break, but he got her to pose for him on a bed in her underwear while he sketches her. When he finishes the sketch, he joins her on the bed and they have sex. It’s a fine scene, but it doesn’t add anything to the plot, other than showing how quickly Marilyn’s gotten over her relationship with Cormac, which had built up over the first season.

The last storyline of this episode involves Cody and Nicole. Amber calls them in for a meeting and announces that she’s got them booked together for some major client, who is impressed by their chemistry based on the photoshoot they did together in episode 5. So to make this work, they need to get along, which Amber convinces them to try to do although Nicole still can’t stand Cody. So that night Cody invites Nicole to dinner at his place, which doesn’t start off well since he’s a terrible cook, but they eventually bond over left-over pizza a beer and end up in bed.

It’s a very hot scene, Noelle DuBois, who plays Nicole, is amazing, but it feels out of character for her to fall for Cody’s charms. Although he does briefly acknowledge how he screwed up his relationship with Stephanie and drove her away, but with the way he’s been acting all season they need to do more to make it seem like he’s changed in any significant way.

Chacebook rating: THREE STARS
