Femme Fatales: ONE MAN’S DEATH

SADIE ALEXANDRU

Written and directed by Michael Hurst, I can’t really discuss this episode without including some major spoilers, so be forewarned.

Jes Macallan stars as Susan Voight. Her husband Todd (Daniel Capellaro) is the local Assistant District Attorney, and unbeknownst to Susan, he’s cheating on her with a woman named Janelle (Sadie Alexandru). One night, while driving home from Janelle’s place, Todd is killed in a freak car accident. At the funeral, Susan is fronted by Janelle, who asks to meet with her privately later.

After the funeral, Janelle comes to Susan’s house and confesses that she was having an affair with Todd, and Susan admits that she suspected as much since a year earlier she found a package of some lingerie that Todd bought with Janelle’s name on the card, but he just said that the company he bought it for must of have screwed up the name, swearing that the lingerie was a gift for Susan, even though when she tried it on it didn’t fit her.

Janelle tells Susan that she suspects that Todd’s death was not an accident, that he was actually murdered, and convinces Susan to team up with her to try to find out the truth. Casper Van Dien plays Joe Hallenbeck, a private detective that Jannelle knows Todd has been paying for something. The ladies track him down and get him to tell them what he knows, which is that Todd had hired him to investigate some local gangster who had a major trial that had been called off, and Todd suspected that his boss, the D.A., Bob Burke (Drew Waters) was involved in the coverup. Hallenbeck suspected that Burke had some papers that would expose his crimes in a safe at Burke’s house but got scared and quite the case when he heard that Burke had hired some Russian hitman.

When Hallenback leaves and goes back to his mobile home, he’s ambushed and shot, but not by the hitman, by Bob Burke himself.

When the ladies find out that Hallenbeck has been killed, they’re more eager than ever to find out the truth. They’d gotten the safe’s combination from Hallenbeck before he was killed, so Susan comes up with a plan that she’ll go to Burke’s house to distract him, noting that Burke had made a pass at her 2 years earlier, giving Janelle a chance to sneak in and get to the safe.

That night, as Janelle sneaks into Burke’s house and finds the safe in his private office, Burke and Susan suddenly confront her. PLOT TWIST! It turns out that Burke and Susan had been having an affair for two years and planned Todd’s death, thinking they got away with it. Once they discovered that Janelle suspected foul play, they knew they still had some loose ends to clean up.

There’s a little more to this story, but I won’t spoil everything.

This is another good episode, and the cast here are all great. Casper Van Dien, in particular, is surprisingly funny in his role. I knew Jess Macallan from a TV show called Mistresses, which I loved. But I was most impressed by Sadie Alexandru here; she was incredible (and gorgeous).

I’ll also note that, in a bit of continuity, Ellie Cornell plays Police Detective Janet Wright, whom she first played in the episode Angels And Demons and then again in Visions Part 2.

The plot is a true erotic thriller, and it has three hot sex scenes. One full scene between Alexandru and Capellaro, and one between Macallan and Waters, plus a briefer scene between an unnamed man and woman who, unfortunately, aren’t credited.

Chacebook rating: FIVE STARS
