This film, released in 2006 (but apparently filmed in 2003, judging by the copyright) is from Torchlight Pictures. So if you’ve read any of my previous reviews of films from this studio, you know what to expect: a bare bones script with a minimal cast and long, slow sex scenes. And this film doesn’t deviate from any of those tropes.

Written by Anora Leachim and directed by Francis Locke, this 2006 film stars Jenna West as Penny and Yanni Kratsas as her boyfriend Derek. Derek is something of a poker-playing expert (at least he thinks he is), and is preparing to enter a pro poker tournament in Las Vegas, where even if he just manages to get into the Top 5, he can earn $10,000. Penny decides that she wants to enter the tournament, although Derek mocks her, insisting that she’s not good enough. This just makes Penny even more determined to enter the tournament; she just needs to raise the $1000 entrance fee.

Nicole Oring plays Penny’s friend Abby. Penny practices her skills by playing strip poker with her. This, of course, leads to some Hot Lesbian Action on a couch. Based on this, Penny feels that she’s ready for the tournament and challenges Derek to a game, for the $1000 enterence fee, which she wins. This somehow leads to her having sex with Mike (Dante Brice), who is a friend of hers and Derek’s.

Mike was in the opening scene of the film, playing poker with the two of them. And there was an ongoing dialogue where each time Derek or Penny called him Mike, he’d try to get them to call him “Tex” instead. But that’s dropped when he shows up again, so I don’t know what the point of that was.

Next, Penny plays poker with Abby and another woman, who is played by Sharon Wild but is not named in the film or the credits, and this becomes a lesbian threesome. Then Penny and Derek reconcile and head off to the poker tournament together. And that’s pretty much that.

So, yeah, another less-than-stellar script. But I’ll give it credit in that the 5 sex scenes were all particularly hot. In addition to the 3 scenes I described, there are 2 scenes of Penny having sex with Derek. Each scene is around 10 minutes long (and the film is only about an hour and 12 minutes long, so it’s mostly just the sex scenes), and Jenna West is great in them, but I especially loved the 2 scenes with Nicole Oring, whom I’ve always enjoyed watching. It’s a waste that they didn’t put her and Dante in a scene together, as it’s implied in the opening that they’re a couple, and they had a good scene in A Housewife Named Candy.

So, not a great movie, but not so bad for what it is. Chacebook rating: THREE STARS
