LINGERIE season 2, episode 5: Three Is Never A Crowd

Written by Doug Miller and directed by Christopher Warre Smets, this episode opens with Lacey and Jason waking up in bed together and then having sex. Vanessa walks by their bedroom and gets visibly turned on as she stops to listen through the door for a moment. Afterward, the three roommates meet up in the kitchen and discuss the awkwardness of the situation, since Lacey and Jason could tell that Vanessa heard them, but agree that it’s no big deal. Then after Vanessa leaves to go to the set of her TV series, Lacey brings up the hypothetical scenario of the three of them having a threesome. Jason acts with disbelief, thinking Lacey is just testing him, and refuses to acknowledge that he’s ever thought of such a thing or wants to do it.

We see Cody at Giovanna’s studio. He’s in a dressing room having sex with Nancy (Allison Wood), the makeup artist. There are a couple of acts to show how Cody is as self-centered as ever. At one point while he’s got Nancy bent over the makeup counter we see him checking out his hair in the mirror, and later while she’s riding him she asks “you like that?” & he casually replies “I’ve had better.”

Nicole walks in, surprising them. Cody apologizes and introduces himself, but this act has put Nicole off of him. Giovanna directs a photoshoot of the two of them posing together in their underwear, but while Cody tries to be flirtatious, Nicole doesn’t feel comfortable touching him and ends up “accidentally” kicking him in the balls. Ouch!

Jason goes to the bar, where he talks to Russ about his conversation with Lacey about the threesome. Russ thinks he’s crazy for not jumping at the chance, but Jason’s still worried that this would backfire on him if he agreed to it. Joanne joins in the conversation, and explains the “rules” of a threesome to the men, telling Jason it should be fine as long as he focuses most of his attention on Lacey during the act, giving tips like maintaining eye contact with her even as he’s fucking Vanessa.

Jeffrey is having lunch in a restaurant with Sebastian, discussing their difficulty in getting funding to produce the fashion line he’s ordered from them. Sebastian warns Jeffrey against doing business with Giovanna, saying he knows of several partners of hers who got screwed over. He then puts Jeffrey in contact with a friend of his whom he thinks can help them.

Russ is having sex with Maddy in his apartment. It’s hot and passionate but afterward, she once again brings up her dissatisfaction with his lack of ambition, saying it’s not fair that Cody is getting all these new modeling gigs when Russ isn’t, considering that Russ was in Lacey’s fashion show too. They get into a little argument about it and she gets dressed and storms out just as Cody comes home. When Russ tells Cody what just happened, Cody’s immediate response is to invite Russ to come out with him saying “you could be my wingman,” once against showing his lack of care for others, but Russ just goes back to his room.

I just can’t get into this new asshole version of Cody, nor the actor playing him. The sooner this plot is over, the better.

Lacey, Jeffery, and Marilyn meet with Phillip (Scott Vancea), Sebastian’s friend, who owns his own garment factory in NY. He’s impressed with Lacey’s reasons for wanting to have her fashion line manufactured in America, instead of going overseas for cheap labor like most designers due. Despite Lacey not being able to afford the 50% deposit, he agrees to do it.

You gotta wonder why Sebastian didn’t just recommend him in the first place?

The episode ends back at Lacey, Jason, and Vanessa’s apartment, where they’re in the living room drinking wine to celebrate Lacey’s success. Then after some innuendo from the two ladies, Jason realizes that they’ve already discussed the issue and they go to the bedroom and have a threesome.

Okay, this may be the hottest scene this series has ever had, so I’m not complaining about seeing it. But from a storyline perspective, it just doesn’t make any sense. After the big deal that was made in season 1 about Lacey’s jealousy when she found out about Jason and Vanessa sleeping together, so much so that she once cut contact with him over it, now that they’re in a relationship and living together, she’s ready to share him? It just comes out of nowhere.

I need to see where this goes before I can make a full judgment. Like, are they going to be a throuple now? We’ll see.
