The Freeze #4

Wow. This issue is…just WOW.

Okay, sorry, but I don’t want to say too much, to risk spoiling the really good stuff for those of you who may have still not picked up this series yet. I will just say that we do get a lot of answers in this issue, but not the answer to everything. We do learn who has been cutting out the hearts of those unfrozen people and why, which is a pretty big reveal and I’d say a major turning point for this series. Adam’s murder of the man who attempted to kill Ray in issue two is discovered. And then the biggest shock is that this group of unfrozen are not alone!

Oh, there is one more revelation which I should correct, the woman rescued in the opening scene of the first issue, whom Ray has been recapping this story to the entire time? We get her name in this issue, and she’s actually an adult. I’d assumed that she was a teenager because they appeared to find her in a High School, but she’s not. And we are given the reason why Ray and the others sought her out, as well.

Dan Wickline is crafting one Hell of a story, I never know what’s coming next, but I can’t wait to find out. And I know I’ve praised artist Phillip Levy before, but I should note that he isn’t just the penciler, but also the inker and the colorist, all of which makes his work even more impressive. And I’ve been remiss in not mentioning the third arm of the creative team, letterer Troy Peteri. Can’t read a comic without someone putting the words in. Kudos to all three men, and the folks at Top Cow, for putting out this excellent new series. Get it NOW.
