Written by Doug Miller and directed by Christopher Warre Smets, this episode opens with Russ and Nina brushing their teeth, which Nina insists on both of them doing before they have sex. As they’re brushing, Nina casually asks Russ if he wants to have a threesome. He is shocked, but of course he’s down for it, asking if she means it’ll be the two of them with one of her hot friends, and she says of course she wouldn’t invite “someone ugly” to join them in bed.
When she said that I immediately knew where this was going.
Then have sex.
At Lacey’s studio, Lacey is working on new designs for her upcoming fashion show, while Jeffrey is helping Marilyn, who’s agreed to model for the show again. Joanne is busy working the background, but Jeffrey doesn’t think she’s doing a good job and, in a bit of obvious foreshadowing, asks Lacey if she has Stephanie’s number on speed dial, but Lacey insists that Joanne will get the hang of the job.
Jason is working with his ex-wife Tracey on picking out photos for his upcoming book. She introduces him to her boss, Bob (Dave Navratil), who wants to talk about promotion for the book. Jason suggests premiering some of the photos at Lacey’s fashion show, and Bob likes the idea, although Tracy is not happy with it, dismissing Lacey as “that underwear girl.”
We see Cody and Nicole having drinks with Russ and Nina. They talk about the $4000 that they each made for their last photoshoot, and how they plan to spend the money. Nicole says she’s putting most of it towards rent and bills and plans to spend the rest on a bunch of expensive shoes. When Cody says he’s loaning all of his money to Lacey to put on their fashion show, Russ and Nina at surprised at what a thoughtful and giving gesture this is. The implication is that Nicole’s influence is making Cody a better person, and she brags about how mature he is now. It’s surprising then that she hasn’t told Cody about what she overheard Giovanna and Richard saying in episode 10. Then Nina gets a text and whispers to Russ that it’s her friend Casey, who she’s asked to join them, so they make up an excuse and leave. After they leave, Cody and Nicole have sex on the table.
Back at Russ’ place, Russ is nervous and excited as he waits for Casey to refer. But then the doorbell rings, and to his surprise, Casey is a man (played by Witja Luka), which I totally guessed. Of course Russ is not down for that, and kicks Casey out. He and Nina then get into an argument as she says this is her fantasy and thinks Russ is a hypocrite for being into it when he assumed that the third party would be another woman. Then she leaves.
Frankly, I found that to be a shame. They should have had Russ reluctantly go along with it, perhaps on the condition that next time it would be with another woman. We don’t get a lot of softcore threesomes of one woman with two men (the last one I remember was in Life On Top episode 3, with Heather Vandeven), and done right it could be a hot scene.
We see Nicole privately meeting in Giovanna’s office with her and Richard, who both interrogate her about Lacey’s plans. Nicole is acting reluctant to talk, but then she tells them about Lacey’s idea for her new fashion show, and they give her a big check. After she leaves, Giovanna and Richard discuss how to sabotage Giovanna’s show. They think about planting stories accusing her of ripping off her ideas from Giovanna, but they need to somehow get a copy of her designs first. And they reiterate the plan to cut Cody off so he doesn’t make more money that he can give to Lacey.
It’s 11 episodes in, and it’s still unclear why Giovanna is so obsessed with ruining Lacey’s business. Lacey is a small studio, and almost constantly broke, so why is Giovanna, who is supposed to be successful and famous, so threatened by her?
Back at Lacey’s apartment, she has Vanessa helping her install a stripper pole in her and Jason’s bedroom. She says she’s doing it because she doesn’t like that Jason is working so closely with his ex-wife, and wants to make sure he’s always eager to come home.
This still seems so silly. Lacey is fine sharing Jason with their roommate but is so worried about losing him to his ex-wife (whom he dumped because she cheated on him)? Make it make sense!
Jason comes home and is surprised to see the pole, and when Lacey says she’s been taking pole dancing classes, he asks her when she had the time, and she just says that she made time for it.
Shouldn’t he be asking her where she got the money? Again, most of the season has been about her struggling for money to keep her business afloat, but now she’s got money to spare for stripper lessons?!?
So then Lacey starts dancing on the poll (she is pretty good) while Jason and Vanessa sit on the bed and watch, then she entices them to join her, so all three start dancing around the poll before falling onto the bed to have another threesome. THE END.
It’s like the storylines on this show are getting dumber as the sex scenes are getting hotter. But because of the latter, I’ll give this episode a Chacebook rating of FOUR STARS.
