SEX FILES: SEXUAL INTRIGUE

I first heard about this movie last week, when I saw a scene posted on Reddit. It stars Lisa Ann, who had been one of my all-time favorite porn stars before she retired. She had appeared in a few softcore films, like Busty Models, Sinsations Naked Wives Unleashed, and To Be True Or Not, and I enjoyed her performances in each one, so I knew I needed to check this one out too.

This film was released in 2008 by Mainline Releasing. Tomas Rosemead is credited as the director, but no writer is listed. This is the same as another film by Rosemead that I’ve seen, Sexually Insatiable. As with that film, I’ll assume that Rosemead likely wrote this, as well.

Liss Ann stars as Jill Dunning, a marriage and family therapist who specializes in “sexual disorders and relationship dysfunction.” Daniel D. Anderson plays Homicide Detective Brad Foss, who comes to question Jill when a serial killer begins targeting women who happen to have been patients of Jill. Tom Stone plays Patrick, Jill’s live-in boyfriend, who is a lawyer. Jennifer Dark, Roxy Deville, and Kayden Faye play Kristen, Danica, and Marin, Jill’s patients. And Sarge Logan plays Nick, a man that Kristen meets on a dating app.

So with this cast and that plot, there is good potential for a decent erotic thriller. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come together as well as it could.

Henceforth, there will be spoilers.

Okay, first of all, there’s no murder mystery here, as it’s revealed right at the beginning that Patrick is the killer. The film opens with him and Kristen having sex in a bedroom. Then, afterward, Patrick strangles Kristen to death and leaves. The next scene is the morning after, when Brad meets Jill at her office to inform her about Kristen’s murder and ask some questions about her. Jill tells him about her last session with Kristen, where Kristen had mentioned her recent date with a man named Nick, and we see them having sex in a flashback scene. This naturally makes Nick a potential suspect, so Brad leaves to find and question him. Patrick arrives, at which point we learn who he is. When Jill tells Patrick what happened, he warns her not to talk to the police without a lawyer present.

First, he’s right, you should never talk to the police without a lawyer. But since we’ve seen him kill the women, we know he’s just saying that to her to cover her tracks. And we know Nick didn’t do it, so there’s no suspense.

I’ll note that when he killed Kristen, they didn’t show his face. We just saw a close-up of Kristen lying in bed, when we see a man’s hand, wearing yellow gloves, grab her by the throat and choke her until she dies. Then we see his legs as he walks out of the room. So I did wonder if maybe this was a red herring, like perhaps the end of the film would reveal that someone else is following Patrick and watching him have sex with the women and then sneaking in to kill them after he leaves. That would be a clever plot twist, but, nope, nothing so creative.

We see Jill having an appointment with Danica, and then that night, Danica is shown bringing Patrick to her home (he’s been secretly going through Jill’s patient files and finding and then finding and asking them out, without them knowing about his connection to Jill), and they have sex.  Afterward, he strangles her, just as he did Kristen, with just a close-up of his gloved hands strangling her.

Brad meets with Jill again to tell her about Danica’s death. He’s still searching for Nick, as he’s their only suspect. Patrick is now acting even more suspiciously, trying to prevent Jill from talking to Brad without him present as her lawyer. However, that doesn’t stop him from pursuing Marin.

At Marin’s place, she and Patrick have sex. But this time things don’t go as usual. Afterward, Marin opens and tries to have a drink of some champagne that Patrick had brought with him, assuming it was for both of them. But Patrick stops her, because he’d bought that champagne to celebrate his anniversary with Jill. This leads to an argument, and Marin tries to kick him out, so he attacks her. He chokes her to death, but in the rush, he didn’t have time to put his gloves on, and before she dies, Marin manages to scratch Patrick’s chest with her fingernails.

Back at home, Patrick takes a shower, and Jill walks in. She sees that the champagne bottle has been opened, and notices the scratches on him, and assumes that he’s been cheating, and tells him to move out of the house. She goes to her office to get away from him while he packs. Brad shows up at the office, telling Jill about Marin’s death, and says that they know Nick didn’t do it, because they found him and had him in custody for questioning during the time Marin was killed. Jill starts crying, both over Marin’s death and her breakup. Brad comforts her.

And if you’re familiar with softcore movies, you know that “comfortting” usually leads to sex, which is what happens here.

After sex, Brad gives details of Marin’s murder, including that they found traces of the murderer’s skin under her fingernails, meaning she scratched his chest before he killed her, and when Jill mentions the scratches she saw on Patrick’s chest, Brad puts two and two together. He hurriedly gets dressed and rushes to Jill’s home to arrest Patrick, but then Patrick suddenly shows up at the office and tries to strangle Jill, but luckily Brad comes back and grabs and arrests Patrick. THE END.

So, as I said at the start, the plot is decent, but the script doesn’t live up to its potential. The lack of suspense hurts it. And I’m surprised to have to say that Lisa Ann’s acting in this movie is not very good. She speaks with deadpan delivery as if she’s reading off of a cue card. I know she can do better, but she seemed to phone this one in. And her poor performance is most noticeable because there are scenes where she’s supposed to be emotional, reacting with grief, anger, or fear, but she never conveys those emotions properly.

Most of the rest of the cast are pretty forgettable as well, with only Daniel D. Anderson, a seasoned softcore veteran, appearing to be trying to do his best with the weak material that he’s given.

The only thing left that could make this film worth watching is the sex scenes, of which there are 8. Lisa Ann is in four of them, two with Anderson and two with Stone. Now that is where she shines. If you’re a fan of Lisa Ann, you’ll love these four scenes. There’s lots of doggystyle and cowgirl positions where you can see those big boobs of hers bouncing. And her facial expressions look like she’s enjoying herself.

However, while the other three women are fine, none of them really excites me. So, their sex scenes (each has one with Tom Stone, and Jennifer Dark has one with Sarge Logan) aren’t worth sitting through the film for. You may disagree, depending on how much you are attracted to them, but the best that I can give this film is a Chacebook Rating of THREE STARS.
